Q7. How can I get more traffic for my site?

Hi, I am Matt Edmundson and today I am answering the question ‘how can I get more traffic for my site?”

When people ask this question, I often find they are looking for fast short term traffic. I won’t go into organic SEO or PR strategies because that is more for medium and long term traffic. Instead, I am going to give you three ways to gain traffic to your website. These are the three ways that I have used in my own ecommerce businesses to get traffic so they do work.

1. Facebook/ Instagram Ads

The truth is most eCommerce sites are paying for more traffic to their site. Organic social media is worth doing, but you cannot expect to get brilliant results solely using organic social media. Facebook especially favor those that pay for the platform, and so you are going to have to think about spending money. Now, I am not suggesting you should lose money on Facebook ads here. Our Facebook marketing strategy is to break even on our Facebook advertising. So with most new product launches we look to have the cost of the advertising equal the profit of the sales or from that advertising. We establish what our break even is and if we can break even it is good for us because we are confident that those customers will return to buy from from us again. We aren’t gaining instant sales, we’re gaining instant traffic.

If you have a business that sells a one-off product then this may not be the best way to grow your business. But if you have a business to the kind that I have then this may be something you want to look into.

Again, the profit from the sale has to be equal to the cost I have incurred from advertising on Facebook and Instagram

In order to set up Facebook or Instagram ads you need to have business accounts on both platforms. You need to head over to facebook.com/adsmanager and follow the instructions.

Most importantly - you MUST do your product and customer research. The people that run successful paid advertisements know everything they can about their customer before paying for an advertisement. You need to know gender, age, location and interests. You need to know what words your customer uses to write a successful ad. You need to talk to your prospect as if they were a friend in your advertising - so do your customer research BEFORE paying to run an advertisement on Facebook or Instagram and save yourself a small fortune.

2. Google Adwords/ Shopping

Another great way to get your website noticed is by using Google adwords or Google shopping. Google adwords/ shopping is another paid marketing tool on which you can pay for your website to appear on the first page of a google search for a particular keyword or phrase of your choice. To make this work for you, your website must be on point and engaging so that as soon as customers land on your page they know exactly what the offer is and they want to buy from you. As with Facebook ads you have to continually monitor Google Adwords to ensure a good ROI and to make sure that it is working for you at all times. Push what’s working and stop what’s not. 3. Email Marketing

Another way to get traffic is by setting up email marketing in which you can tell your customers about offers they can find on your website. Grow your email list and provide real valuable content and offers that your customers want to see.
